The CCNZ Sustainability Committee works to understand and apply sustainable practices in civil construction, including environmental, social and governance.

The Governance Group oversees the overall sustainability programme and provides the primary conduit to clients. It is expected this group will be made up of CCNZ members and client groups.

The Governance Group aims to:

  • Provide a platform for client group to consult with CCNZ members on sustainability objectives.
  • Provide the government with a single point of contact for the civil construction sector
  • Assist with the coordination of sustainability initiatives across the sector.
  • Provide advice to clients and the civil construction industry, in particular small to medium companies.
  • Scope and resource projects that enable the implementation of sustainability into the sector.
  • Provide a conduit to industry of recognised good practice in the implementation of sustainability.  
  • Monitor sub-committee working group work plans for content and resourcing 
  • Monitor the implementation of sustainability in the sector.

Working groups

Environmental sub-committee

This working group is responsible for reviewing and overseeing issues related to environmental aspects of sustainability.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Developing and overseeing development and implementation of consistent means to calculate carbon.
  • Investigating carbon reduction opportunities
  • Identifying resource efficiencies and sustainable procurement opportunities, such as
    • Water reduction initiatives
    • Guidance on waste reduction initiatives and opportunities to improve waste reduction.
    • Opportunities to reuse and recycle resources 

Social outcomes sub-committee
The function of this sub-committee is to review and oversee issues related to social outcomes. 

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Assist with supporting the diversity of age, gender and ethnicity in the civil construction industry
  • Diversity of cultural outcomes
  • Prevention of worker exploitation through the supply chain
  • Understanding CCNZ membership diversity
